About GIA Print E-mail

GIA is the national network of groups and organisations that promote Italian language and culture to young people in Australia and since November 2011, registration is also open to individuals. We exist to bring together young people in the Italian community from all parts of Australia. We are the umbrella organisation that aims to connect Italian youth organisations with one another, sharing ideas on how to increase engagement with Italian language and culture among young people in Australia.

We do this by:

a. Connecting youth organisations that focus on Italian language and culture;

b. Sharing experience, skills and networks to strengthen the local Italian youth community; and

c.    Acting as a point of reference and source of information within the Italian Australian community.

GIA is a non-incorporated entity that is managed and run by volunteers. Our constitution - available [HERE] outlines the rules and procedures under which our organisation operates. Any group that promotes Italian language and culture to young people in Australia with the majority of its members aged 18 - 35 is eligible to join the national network of GIA, as well as young individuals who would like to get involved.

In October 2010, GIA convened a Special General Meeting (SGM) to change its constitution to this federation model from an earlier State-based representation model. The Committee elected under the previous constitution at our 2010 AGM will continue until the next AGM to be held in 2011. The current Committee is as follows:
